Women's Services

Huron Medical Center is the only hospital in the tri-county area providing obstetrical services. Our team of OB/GYN physicians and obstetrical nurses have strong roots in the community. They delight in seeing the families with whom they have worked in their own neighborhoods.

The professional staff of our Obstetrical Department provides care for women and their babies before, during and after delivery. Because our labor and delivery team works cooperatively, they understand each other and can quickly put a laboring mother at ease.

Our Rehab Services Department provides treatments for incontinence, pelvic and back pain, including back pain during pregnancy.

Breast Care

According to the National Cancer Institute, one in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. The good news is, when detected early, the breast cancer survival rate is 98 percent. Early detection can save your life.

While no one knows for sure what causes breast cancer, genetic traits and lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise may play roles in the development of the disease. The American Cancer Society recommends a baseline screening mammography for every woman between the ages of 35 and 39 (possibly earlier, if there's a family history of breast cancer), and an annual mammogram each year after the age of 40.

Huron Medical Center provides preventive and early detection programs and treatment options for breast cancer. We offer all services from digital mammography screening to breast surgery. Our supportive staff will answer your breast health questions and provide you with the health resources you need.

Digital mammography provides crisp, clear, easy-to-understand images, and it delivers rapid results for physicians and patients. We offer state-of-the-art digital mammography which can help pinpoint cancer in its earliest stages. The machine features a sophisticated computer-aided detection system that provides crisp, clear images that help clinicians pinpoint cancer in it earliest stages. And because these images are immediately available in digital form, there's no need to develop film. That makes the entire process much shorter.

A screening mammogram generally takes only 15 to 20 minutes, with results mailed to patients within 48 hours.

To schedule your mammography screening, call at (989) 269-1565, between 8:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m. weekdays.

Unit Tours

We recommend that you call and schedule a tour of our facilities at least one month before you are scheduled to deliver. This chance to meet our staff, see our facilities, and for us to answer your questions will help you be more relaxed as you anticipate labor and delivery.

Labor

Our goal is to work with you to assure the safest and most comfortable birth possible. We have combined labor/delivery/recovery rooms equipped to meet the differing needs of OB patients. A variety of options for pain relief are available. We encourage your family and friends to be with you as you feel appropriate; however, there may be times we cannot accommodate everyone.

After Delivery

Huron Medical Center's obstetrics area and nursery have been set up to meet the individual needs of parents and new babies. Parents are encouraged to interact with their newborns as much as possible. Mothers can elect to keep their babies in their rooms while taking advantage of the trained nursing staff available to provide assistance on a 24-hour basis or to get a little extra rest or recovery by leaving baby in the nursery under the staff's capable care.
